Broke & Old
By briantologist | August 22, 2003
Birthday’s a-comin’. I’m officially starting to look crosseyed at 30, which if I squint I can see from here, off on the horizon, waving cheerfully. I’ve discussed this with Jimmy Jam, who is I believe the oldest person among our group of friends at roughly two weeks older than I. (He turned 28 two weeks ago; I turn 28 Monday.)
We decided we’re going to have to do something about this, since from what we can gather, the years between 30 and 40 pass by about twice as fast as the years between 20 and 30. Which means we’ll both be 40 in a little less than seven years. Even less when you count blackouts.
Anyway, celebrations might be somewhat curtailed this year, as I’m fucking dead-ass broke ’til August 29. My options are — okay, my option is to let the good folks at Citibank pay my way through any festivities, and maybe celebrate properly next Friday. Having reviewed my option, I have therefore decided it is sound, and I should proceed with it.
Sometimes I’m so easy to reason with, I amaze myself.
