    …. ghhhhhkkkk.

    By briantologist | August 29, 2003

I’m fuckin’ beat, people. This week seems like about the longest I’ve ever experienced, due in no small part to my birthday drankin’ debacle and the two-day recovery period that ensued.

Making the week even more exhausting was the fact that I started auditing a screenwriting class this week — exciting, yes, and stimulating and whatnot, and I’m sure it’s gonna do me a lot of good, but working it into my work schedule is just making things beyond wack.

And then there was the unannounced visit to Darleece’s comments box (see entry “I H8 New York”) by some awful bitch calling herself “Sara,” which among other things made me wonder if leaving the h off the end of Sarah can cause permanent personality damage, but brought up a host of other frustrating and exhausting problems, most of which I’ll detail here.

First, what on earth would compel somebody to be so randomly mean and shitty and awful to people they’ve never met before? Okay, in all fairness, the post does include the words, “I’ll step up to the plate and argue with anyone who wants to take me on.” However, Darleece’s original argument (that it’s endlessly infuriating when people get this “Only in New York!!! Can anything remotely interesting or out of the ordinary happen!!! Duh!!!” attitude, as seen on a particular episode of “Sex and the City”) remains entirely valid.

Second, and this is one that’s been bothering me even more, I’m starting to really hate the Internet again. I go through a lot of hot and cold phases with said information super-crap receptacle, the high points generally occurring when somebody sends me a page entirely dedicated to bum wines. The low points, though, are times like these, when people prove how fucking petty and shitty they can be, and how they’ve basically got nothing better to do than shoot their mouths off at people they know they’ll never meet just so they can forget their own insecurities for a little while.

I think what really bothers me about the Internet is that it’s either a micro- or macrocosm, depending on how you think of it, of human behavior in general — it regularly demonstrates how great and funny and inventive people can be, and simultaneously how stupid and petty and shitty people can be. And since I’m hot and cold about humanity in general, I suppose it stands to reason that I’d feel the same way about l’Internet.

Anyway, at the moment I’m of half a mind to say “fuck it” to blogging, and dedicate the time I might spend on it to reading or sweeping the floor. But I’m pretty sure the other driving force behind the Internet — self-obsession — will bring me back to the fold sooner or later. After all, I’m only human.
