    Wanted: Pen Pal

    By briantologist | November 12, 2003

Must be willing to actually write actual letters on actual paper, then put in actual mailbox and mail. I get plenty of e-mails, but I tend to delete them, or forget they’re there, or treat them like e-mail. After a few years of using e-mail regularly, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s no substitute for actual correspondence with friends. The only instance I can think of in which e-mail is a reasonable replacement for paper correspondence is letters to my grandma, who lives in Belize. I don’t know how much you know about Belize’s postal system, but as that Central American nation has no income tax, it’s a little light on infrastructure, and federal systems in general. Thus, paper mail isn’t what I’d call “fast” getting down there.

I wrote Darleece a letter last night, I wanted to write a letter so bad. Though she does technically live in the same house as I do, she was asleep in the other room when I wrote it, so it sort of counts. Plus, writing to people who live at your address is a great way to save on postage.

So friends in other locales, take note: I’m probably going to start writing you letters. Agent Foxxy Boxing, Dr. Byrne, take note, and sift through your junk mail before you throw everything out. And on the off chance she should come across this page, Ivy, my original pen pal, drop me an e-mail and send me your address, ’cause I need to send you a CD.
