    Twist this, pal.

    By briantologist | April 23, 2004

So we had another tornado scare last night in scenic Tulsa, and this one didn’t bother to wait until I was home from work; the tornado sirens started going off on campus at about 4:15 in the p.m. I flipped on the giant TV in my office (left over from the NCAA tournament), and a quick check revealed the storms were headed toward the vast eight-laned wastes of south Tulsa, or “Little Plano,” as I like to call it.

I know people live out there too, and I’m not so unsympathetic that I didn’t hope their houses and apartments wouldn’t be destroyed. I was, however, unsympathetic enough to breathe a whopping sigh of relief, sit back with a pitcher of Santinos, and resume drinking on the porch.

Thus is revealed a crucial element of storm season: Survivor’s Glee. It’s unlike survivor’s guilt in that the guilt part is replaced with glee. See. So it’s called Survivor’s Glee instead.

    (ahem.)

I think the fact that the first two tornados of the season threatened our house (rather than someplace like Beggs) got me off on the wrong foot with tornado season this year. It seems like they usually start off rural, with one or two threatening our upstate metro area in midseason, and then that’s about it. But y’know, it’s good to shake things up a bit. Keeps us from getting complacent, I guess. Anyway, all of that’s to say that I think I’m back on my usual storm season footing. Nerves are returning to normal. Breathing again. In, out. In, out.

This tornado season has made for a rough work week.

Remember last year during tornado week when I came over and we all split a bottle of pinot grigio and watched the E! True Hollywood Story on the Hilton Sisters? That was one of my favorite tornadoes.

That was the one where we figured out that you were huge in Japan! And you dropped some line about Brian being live at Budokan. That was a good one.

That was seriously good stuff. For some reason it’s blending with the evening we figured out what D.B. Sweeney was doing right then.

Yeah, maybe that was a different night? I can’t remember. Right now I think D.B. Sweeney is at Lowe’s shopping for a mulcher.

The D.B. Sweeney night was right before I moved, like in September or something.

Man, so many good times had on those two couches.

I think D.B. Sweeney is returning meat to the grocery store. It was spoilt.

Those two couches should end up in the Smithsonian in the Furniture That’s Seen Some Fun exhibit. The couches and Steve’s chair shaped like a high heel.
