    Challenge: Accepted

    By briantologist | October 29, 2004

Um, yes. So. Some of you may remember a particularly excited post I wrote a while back about Challenge Butter, a fascinating and tasty addition to our food arsenal here at Fort Awesome.

Shortly after writing this post, I sent an e-mail to the good people at Challenge Dairy, Inc., expressing how pleased I was with their product. I figured that’d be the end of it, and went on about my life.

Until I received this via e-mail.

I’m pretty sure I’ve got a new favorite CEO, is all I’m saying here.

How cool would it be to be able to answer the query, “And what do YOU do?” with, “I am the CEO of a butter company.” I wonder what kind of perks come with a job like that.

I LOVE your original Challenge Butter post, so this letter from the CEO is just the – um – butter in the icing. This reminds me of the book Idiot Letters (au. Paul Rosa, as I recall). I highly recommend it.

Clearly it’d have to come with “all the butter you can eat” and some sort of performance-related year-end buttermilk bonus…

Dare I ask, who was your previous favorite CEO?

Also, hearkening back to my single trip to the actual Heartland, whence I discovered these bizarro Twinkies that had red streaks in them as if they’d been attacked by a tiger (or were made in honor of Bruce Lee), what I’d like to know is, do you people still have them? Or did you ever? This was in Utah or Idaho, I think… I was on my way to Montana (yes, I know that’s pushing the definition of Heartland, but Downer’s Grove, Illinois was much less exciting for me).

I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen a streaked Twinkie hereabouts. My odd regional food variation of the millennium is that Hostess Ding Dongs were at one time (and may still be) called “King Dons” in parts of the Eastern U.S.

      “King Don”? “Eat King Don”?

      ?

Also, I don’t know if he’s CEO, but Neil Young is my other corporate benefactor. He bought the Lionel Model Train company.

The streaky Twinky was tasty, but vaguely unsettling. Much like any other Twinkie. I didn’t realize that about Mr Young, that is truly excellent. Also, we had King Dons, and I never understood it, either.
