    Soon will be the drinking

    By briantologist | October 22, 2004

There’s one more hour of pledge week left, and Lawdy, am I ever ready to be done with it. Also, Lawdy, am I ever glad I only have to beg for money on-air for an hour a day. Finally, Lawdy, am I ever freakin’ beat to holy hell. I can’t wait to not do a goddamn thing this weekend.

In other news, after a brief flirtation with eBay, I’ve now opted to buy The Scotch Fairy’s old laptop off him, which I’m stoked about. Normally I’d be horrified at the idea of owning a Windows-based computer, but A): I just don’t feel like it’s that big a deal anymore, and B): He and I are totally gonna pimp it out with Linux, which I just recently got a taste of and freakin’ loved. It’s got the stability of OSX (which is laughable to Linux/Unix users, as OSX totally ripped off/dumbed down/prettied up Unix for its whole interface), and a whole lot more speed than Windows. Plus it’ll solve both my “I want a new computer” problem and my “I can’t afford to buy a new Apple right now” problem. I figure I’ll have geeky shit to fuck around with for at least another six months this way.

If it were an x86_64 processor, I would seriously consider gentoo, but given its most unintuitive (if powerful) installation procedure I’m leary of diving into it when Fedora offers a good balance of customizability/control, OPEN source (fuck you Red Hat), and intuitive interfaces for how someone like Brian is going to use it.

I started out on Slackware in 1995, so it’s a sentimental favorite, but other dists are just so much more robust these days.

Yes! YES! And soon, I may even know enough to add something, rather than just shouting yes! YES!
