Dragon: Chased
By briantologist | December 16, 2004
I know there was a time in my life when I thought about things other than how much pain I’m in today, and how long I had ’til my next dose of Tylenol with codeine (which barely fucking does anything for me anymore, I’m distressed to tell you). I know these times existed; I’m just having a hard time remembering them.
As such, I’ll be going back to the doctor today. Everything was going so well pain-wise, and I was gradually improving over the course of a week or so, and then I woke up Saturday morning and it was back to square one, with the discomfort at every angle and the numbness and the whatnot. We still managed to squeeze in three episodes of “Buffy” with Gin & Juice, but even finding a comfortable position to lie still in was a struggle. We must all suffer for our art, I suppose. Huh. Huh.
I guess the opioids are doing their magic; I do feel kind of detached most of the time, and yesterday I stuck a fork two inches into my thigh and didn’t seem to mind much at all. Unfortunately their magic doesn’t seem to adequately encompass the leg part, the part I’d really like it to encompass. But again, my brain? Wrapped in cotton, my friends. Packed safely for its one-way journey to the land of the lotus-eaters. Perhaps I should concentrate on enjoying that.

“But again, my brain? Wrapped in cotton, my friends.”
If you ever wanted to get REALLY into a religion, now would be a good time to start. Might I suggest Hare Krishna or snake handling? If those are too physical for you, pehaps you can invent your own religion! You’ve already get the name. All you need to do is make up some vaguely metaphysical bullshit that ensures that your followers will have much more fulfilling lives than everyone else by doing something that will require very little work, but quite a bit of money. Extra points if you can find a way to sell it with the claim “This isn’t religion, it’s a beautiful science!”
