    workin’ for the Monday

    By briantologist | August 14, 2006

So this Saturday we got A) a babysitter, and B) drunk. “Got a babysitter” is a bit of a misrepresentation, as it implies we actually took the initiative to go out and look for someone to babysit our boy, when in fact we just took Holly* up on her offer to babysit Henry.

Nonetheless, the baby was sat. This allowed us to concentrate on our public drinking with Thomas and Daniel and Tony and Emily, which we’ve sorely neglected since moving here. The story, as usual, is best told through the magic of photography.

After getting home, naturally we didn’t want to go to bed without getting Holly all crunked up, and so we had a lovely evening in our temperate backyard with our good friend wine. And beer. (NOTE: This stuff? Fucking awesome. I’m pretty sure I’d like it even if it didn’t cost 3 bucks for a six-pack, but as it does, in fact, cost 3 bucks for a six-pack? Fricken awesome.) And it was swell. And then we woke up the next morning and it was not so swell. The hangover, I mean. Was not swell.

    Still, good times. Cheers.
    * — Incidentally, please read this post by Holly immediately, as it contains the new funniest** sentence in the history of the English language: “He got hopped up on Creatine one night and attacked one of the female members of Harmony & Understanding.”

** — I mean, okay, obviously the event itself isn’t necessarily funny, but the phrase in and of itself = mind-boggling.

Now that you’re in the midwest you MUST check out the beer – Wisconsin has some fabulous microbreweries. Check out any beer by New Glarus Brewery (WI – their Spotted Cow is one of my favorites) – lots of awards, great beer. Even the more massed-produced Leinenkugel’s (I’m partial to their Honey Weiss) is leagues better than any of that Miller/Budweiser swill.

Dude, I’ve loved Leinie’s for a long, long time. Their red has been my favorite thus far, but I just had this sorta summer wheat thing they make (it’s got a blue label), and holy crap is it good.

The being hopped up on Creatine reminds me of one of my favorite lines from Donnie Darko: Sometimes I question your commitment to Sparkle Motion!
