    Did you know?

    By briantologist | March 31, 2007

Guess how much it costs to fly a family of three from Chicago to Tulsa! Go ahead, take a guess. Just a stab. Here, I’ll give you a hint: It’s a thousand dollars.

True story. Apparently when we priced tickets for the holidays last year? Those weren’t expressly “Holiday prices” per se, so much as they were, how you say, “the going rate to fly a family of three a relatively short distance, especially in airline terms.”

Fucking seriously, people. Somebody better send me a seed for one of those trees that grows thousand-dollar bills, like, yesterday, because we’ve got shit to do.

But Henry is not two yet… can’t he fly for free? Or are you already factoring that in? In which case, fuck me! No wonder the airlines are all going under, no one can afford to go anywhere!

Have you tried http://www.kayak.com? They sometimes find surprisingly good prices (at really inconvenient times, but so it goes).

If Henry is under 2 years of age he should be able to fly either free or for a very low price (Maybe this doesn’t apply to other airlines?). It was the case for the airline I worked for.

I don’t know what the distance between Tulsa and OK is, but can you do it in a greyhound maybe.

I feel your pain. Times 4!!! That’s how much it costs us to fly our family of 5 home to Ireland in the summer, the guts of 4,000 dollars!!
Pls forward me some of those seeds if you find them. Also, euro seeds would be helpful since the euro HATES the frigging dollar ::::sigh::::

Oh my god, the thought of that makes me shudder. Christ. How the fuck does anybody ever afford to do anything? I’m at a loss.

That kayak site is awesome! I didn’t get a lower fare with it, but for some reason it seems a little more trustworthy to me than Orbitz.

And yes, believe it or not, Henry will be 2 years old by the time we take this trip in September. Making him, according to the logic of the airlines, an adult.

Does this at least come with some reacharound action? Or can they at least call you a little whore … do SOMETHING to make you like it?

Jesus. I can think of three separate airlines with direct flights from Chicago to Tulsa.

For a thousand dollars you can rent a limo and drive your ass to Tulsa and still have enough left over to leave as an offering to the giant hands next to ORU.

you could always just *say* that Henry is not two. I mean, are they going to ask him for identification?

http://www.site59.com has last minute deals if you’re willing to gamble.
you have to combine flight/car or flight/hotel, though.

travalation.com Cheap flights around here. I priced a trip for me and fiance at $150 from Dallas to Detroit. (That was $150 each.)

Why don’t you fly to OKC instead of Tulsa? A bit of a pain in the ass to drive that far, yeah, but it was only $350ish per person last time I flew in there from Philadelphia. I think the tickets were bought through Travelocity. Anyway, good luck!

And after careful calculations, it occurs to me that 350 per person x 3 persons is not quite cheaper than 1000. So never you mind me.

Jesus H. Christ in a sidecar drinking tequila. I wish this surprised me, but having paid as much as $700 for a single ticket between SFO (hub of United) and DFW (hub of American) — a fairly busy and non-obscure route — I’m close to telling my fam that we need to call more and visit less. Uggh.

Man, I’m sorry that I just saw this post – I may be too late to help. But if you want any help, let me know. I used to be a Travel Agent (woo hoo!) and still have friends in the biz. I don’t know how much better we can do for you, or what your parameters are for traveling, but I’m happy to take a stab at it for you.
