Reflections From the Bottom Rung

Saturday, October 24th, 2009It was when I read this story, about shutting down one’s blog, that I realized I needed to start writing here again.
As I read about how ideas for posts were getting in the way of her working on her novel, or other stories, or grocery lists, or leaflets, the same idea came back to me that’s been plaguing me for kind of a while now: I’ve got nothing to write about. I’d certainly settle for a blog post or two.
… and then here I was again.
Wednesday, April 8th, 2009Well. It appears we have some catching up to do. E’s Grandma finally jumped ship after a valiant and mostly unresponsive three weeks in bed. The length of this eventually put E in the awkward position of simultaneously being sad to see her Grandma go and kind of wishing she’d go ahead and do the [...]
Dear April,
Tuesday, April 8th, 2008You’re fast approaching March in the overall undesirability category, despite my prior refutations of the Eliot’s notion that you, not your predecessor, are the cruelest month. Oh, you started off promising enough, with your three or four spectacularly beautiful days and that 12-hour period when I thought we were getting two grand back from The [...]
I have to hone my texting-while-driving moves
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008Brian worked some kind of internet magic and got us free cell phones, so we’ve been insanely fiddling with them for the past 24 hours. I set it so that, when I get a text message, it sounds like the TARDIS landing. You have no idea how pleased I was when it went off and [...]
Shuffling on bloody stumps through Roscoe Village
Thursday, March 27th, 2008Yesterday I had my Lady Professional interview, so I got all gussied up and, after getting some useless advice from my neighbor on which sweater to wear, I set off looking great. I felt great too, that is, until I had gotten four steps out of my front door. My stylish new shoes were agony [...]
More hurting blisters
Thursday, January 24th, 2008My love of clementines has been thoroughly documented, so it won’t be a surprise to many of you that I have gorged myself once again. Only this time I have a scabby, ulcery spot right in the way of my delighted taste buds. This is not a set back, I dig deep within and manage [...]
I blame Heath Ledger
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008I was just rejected for a job that I, and everyone I knew, was ridiculously confident that I was going to get. That’s what I get for being confident, isn’t it? I’m tired of people telling me that this will all be over. I have nothing to say to anybody. My sister, whom I speak [...]
I have eaten so many clementines today!
Thursday, December 13th, 2007I bought a li’l mini-crate of these zesty treasures and I can not keep my fingers out of them. I’m starting to develop a rough, burny sensation all around the inside of my mouth. I think that feeling makes me want to eat more. Like, they cause the pain, but the only way to soothe [...]
great
Monday, November 12th, 2007So, it appears that I have contracted some bizarre scalp rash that isn’t all the other normal kinds of scalp rash other people get. It’s not excema, or dandruff, or even those painful scalp zits one sometimes gets. Whatever it is, it’s the most painful thing I’ve experienced in a long time, and I’m not [...]
“worst episode ever.”
Tuesday, March 6th, 2007So I was carrying Henry out to the car this morning and my foot went straight out from under me on some ice, and we both went down really, really fast, and I was not between him and the dirt when he fell, and if there is an award for wanting to gouge one’s own [...]
